Get to know me!
I have lived and worked in our district since a very young age. My wife, Mariela, and I also raised our daughters here. I want to see our city and district succeed and prosper. Unfortunately, over the last four years, I have watched our district and our city go into a decline. I want to bring my experience as a businessman to rebuild and uplift our district and provide every resident the attention and service they deserve. I humbly ask for your support so that together we can put Miami, especially District 1, back on the path to prosperity.
Hiring more police officers and strengthening district security to protect citizens and foster confidence for business investment.
Ensuring equal access to services and benefits across all areas of the district, including street maintenance, sidewalks, and infrastructure improvements for an enhanced quality of life.
Implementing additional trolleybuses in the district, particularly on routes that have been eliminated in Miami-Dade County, to facilitate transportation for senior citizens and alleviate existing traffic congestion.
Creating more affordable housing options to address homelessness and ensure neighborhood security. The candidate will work on solutions and programs that support homeless individuals in reintegrating into society and benefit all residents.

Miguel Angel Gabela came to the United States from Cuba at the age of 6 in 1970. Like many of you, his family made many sacrifices to come to the United States and build a life here. Early on, Miguel learned to work hard and always put his family first. Miguel and his wife, Mariela, have been married for 36 years and have created a beautiful family together. They are proud parents to Stacy and Caroline and grandparents to Joaquin. Miguel opened his own business 40 years ago and since then has lived and worked in District 1. He volunteered his time to serve on the City of Miami Zoning Board where he defended the individual’s rights and interests, usually in conflict with powerful stakeholders and larger entities. Most recently, Miguel is confronting the unlawful redistricting of District 1 whereby his home is purposely being drawn out of the district.
City Commission - Special Meeting: REDISTRICTING
Florida Circuit Court Judge Pedro P. Echarte, Jr. ruled on Wednesday that Miguel Gabela is a qualified candidate for District 1 in the City of Miami’s upcoming municipal election set for Nov. 7.
Miami commission candidate Miguel Gabela filed to oppose Alex Diaz De La Portilla last February, and somehow got carved out of the district, for which he sued.
Miami, FL - Miguel Angel Gabela, a candidate for Commissioner in District 1, City of Miami, made a compelling appearance at the city's redistricting commission meeting. The newly proposed city maps by the commissioners have raised concerns as they appear to intentionally exclude Miguel Angel Gabela's residence from District 1. This exclusion seeks to hinder his candidacy and prevent him from challenging the incumbent Commissioner, Alex Diaz de La Portilla.
Miguel, a long-time resident of District 1, Miami, who has previously participated in local elections, has been actively campaigning since February 2023 for the upcoming November elections. However, it seems that his right as a citizen to run for office is being unjustly denied.
Yesterday's commission meeting shed light on this matter. The proposed new district maps would conveniently remove Miguel's house from District 1, effectively disqualifying him from running against Alex Diaz de La Portilla. It raises suspicions about the motivations behind this move, particularly considering the presumed interest of Commissioner La Portilla in removing Miguel from the district.
This situation highlights the injustices Miguel Angel Gabela is currently facing, as his rightful candidacy is seemingly undermined by political interests. The City Commission's actions in redistricting need to be critically examined to ensure fairness and transparency.
The public is urged to closely follow the developments in this matter as Miguel Angel Gabela fights for his right to run for Commissioner in District 1, City of Miami.
